Only a small number of Windows phones will get the Windows 10 Creators Update

Microsoft is planning to start rolling out its Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update on April 25th, but not many handsets will actually receive it. ZDNet reports that a small subset of Windows phones will receive the update, despite the beta release being open to a number of devices. That’s not entirely surprising, especially because not every Lumia handset got the Windows 10 upgrade last year, but it will still disappoint the small number of Windows phone users expecting updates.

ZDNet has published a list of the 13 devices that are expected to receive the Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update:

  • Alcatel IDOL 4S
  • Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL
  • HP Elite x3
  • Lenovo Softbank 503LV
  • MCJ Madosma Q601
  • Microsoft Lumia 550
  • Microsoft Lumia 640 / 640XL
  • Microsoft Lumia 650
  • Microsoft Lumia 950 / 950 XL
  • Trinity NuAns Neo
  • VAIO VPB051

Microsoft hasn’t officially revealed its update list, but the company explained to ZDNet that not all devices will be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile Creators Update. “As has been the case with pervious Windows updates, a device may not be able to receive the Creators Update if the device hardware is incompatible, lacking current drivers, or otherwise outside of the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s (‘OEM’) support period,” says a Microsoft spokesperson. “The full list of supported devices will be posted on the Product Lifecycle page soon.”
